Is the Problem Real

Most products fail solving a problem nobody hurt enough to pay for.

After reading, you can

Help a founder test whether the problem is real and painful enough, through conversations.

Each chapter answers one question

  1. Chapter 1: Has anyone tested what I'm surest about customers?

What am I believing about customers that I have not checked?

A belief written down can be tested; a belief kept in your head is always right.

  2. Chapter 2: Can I trust praise from people who know me?

How many people who do not know me have I talked to?

Ten thirty-minute conversations say more than a thousand-person survey.

  3. Chapter 3: They said they'd buy, so why didn't they?

When did they last face this problem, and what did they do?

Questions about what people did produce the truth; questions about what they will do produce politeness.

  4. Chapter 4: The problem is real, but will anyone pay?

How much is this problem costing them?

A real problem that is not painful enough is the kind people can live with forever.

  5. Chapter 5: Am I seeking the truth, or seeking agreement?

After ten conversations, what do I honestly conclude?

Founders are best at convincing themselves, and that is the biggest risk at this stage.
