Sound familiar?

  • Days vanish into printer fixes and password resets.
  • Requests come by call, chat and hallway with no log.
  • Everything lives in one head; leave means standstill.
  • Management cannot see the workload.

After reading, you can

Help a sole tech person triage requests, protect important work and avoid being a single point of failure.

Each chapter answers one question

  1. Chapter 1: If it's all in my head, why write it down?

How many requests did I receive last week, and through which channels?

Requests that are not recorded cannot be prioritised or counted.

  2. Chapter 2: Everything's urgent, so what actually matters?

Which tasks should be done now, which later, and which declined?

Not every urgent task is important, and important tasks are rarely urgent.

  3. Chapter 3: Busy all day, so why won't the big project move?

This week, how many hours did I have without interruptions?

Big work only moves forward in stretches of uninterrupted time.

  4. Chapter 4: If I take a week off, does everything stop?

If I took a week off, could the company keep running?

A system only one person understands breaks when that person is away.

  5. Chapter 5: Won't the boss hire, or can't they see the work?

Which numbers do I use to report my work?

If the boss cannot see the workload, they will not provide more people or money.
