5 Pains
No idea when to say it
HighEarly is risky and late is discourteous.
Root cause: An organisation's reaction to a resignation is unpredictable
There is nobody to hand over to
HighThe replacement has not been hired.
Root cause: Recruiting a replacement starts only after the resignation
Treated differently after resigning
MediumThough still working there.
Root cause: Whoever is leaving is treated as already outside
The exit interview leads nowhere
MediumSo nobody is honest in it.
Root cause: Honesty at that moment benefits the speaker not at all
A reference is still needed later
MediumSo goodwill must be preserved at any cost.
Root cause: A former employer keeps the right to speak about you after you leave

5 Existing Solutions
A solution is not the same thing as a product, a customer can hire a behaviour or a workaround too.
Give exactly the required notice
BehaviourThe safest route, usually too short for a proper handover.
Write things down before leaving
BehaviourThe most generous thing possible, counted in nobody's workload.
Warn the immediate manager informally
BehaviourBest preserves the relationship, and is a bet on trust.
Answer blandly in the exit interview
WorkaroundThe only rational response, leaving the organisation never knowing the real reasons.
Stay in touch with colleagues afterwards
BehaviourWhat actually remains, outside every process the organisation has.
2 Opportunity Gaps
Honesty in an exit interview gains the speaker nothing and may cost them a reference, so the organisation collects precisely the most harmless answers.
Why existing solutions fail: The only person free to speak plainly about an organisation is the one leaving, and they are also the one who still depends on it for a reference, so the window of honesty closes exactly as it opens.
Potential opportunity: Collecting reasons anonymously and months later, when the teller depends on nothing.
There is a process for joining and a process for having left; the middle, someone still working who has resigned, belongs to neither.
Why existing solutions fail: This period is when knowledge is most transferable and also when the organisation treats the person as already outside, so most of what they know leaves with them during exactly the weeks that should have been the most valuable.
Potential opportunity: Treating the notice period as a stage with its own work, transferring knowledge, rather than as a wait.
